Was just allowed to see her...she looks great! Lots of plastic tubing running everywhere. Some highlights from a medical standpoint:
-fully sedated and paralyzed to keep her from pulling at things
-keeping her body temperature low so her heart doesn't beat too fast
-tightly controlling her blood pressure if needed to keep the heart from working too hard
-3 tubes in her chest: one in each lung cavity and one in the mediastinum (space between the lungs containing the heart and esophagus) to drain excess fluid
-pacemaker in but not being used. Sometimes they use them to control the heart rate to maximize flow or if she has abnormal rhythms
-monitors in her right SVC and left atria to check pressures
-tricuspid valve (the one between the right atrium and ventricle) was a little in the way and had to be "modified," which could lead to some flow obstruction down the road but is doing well now. Unlikely to need major (haha) surgery but may need balloon dilation. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
I expected her to be much "puffier" from fluid, but she looks GREAT. Sats are sitting at 100%!!
Possibly to be extubated tomorrow (breathing tube out) if she does well.
